Orchid Fir Bark 24 Quart (Heat Treated) for Reptiles Enclosures & Bioactive Tanks
Regular price
$24.00
This bark is an all natural terrarium substrate which regulates humidity in your enclosure. Additionally, this bark evenly distributes heat to encourage digging activity. Our fir bark is washed to reduce dust and particulates before undergoing a final heat treatment for sterilization.
Orchid fir bark is also a popular substrate for many types of plants, especially orchids, because it is porous, well-draining, and provides excellent air circulation to the roots. It is made from the bark of the Douglas fir tree, which is harvested, processed, and packaged specifically for use as a planting medium.
To use orchid fir bark for plants, start by selecting a container with drainage holes. Add a layer of orchid fir bark to the bottom of the container, making sure to create a depth of at least one inch. This layer will serve as the base of the planting medium. Next, carefully remove the plant from its existing container, taking care not to damage the roots. Gently loosen the roots to encourage growth, and place the plant on top of the orchid fir bark in the new container. Add more orchid fir bark around the sides and top of the plant, making sure to pack it in firmly but not too tightly. The bark should be just loose enough to allow for air and water to move through the substrate and reach the roots.
Water the plant well, making sure to saturate the orchid fir bark. Over time, the bark will begin to break down and decompose, which will provide the plant with essential nutrients.
Suitable for tropical animals and plants, frogs, isopods, insects, and hydroponic growing/seed starting. Also suitable for orchids and other sensitive plants.
